DRI Proposed Projects

DRI grant funds can be used as gap funding for eligible capital projects that have the potential to increase economic vitality and growth in the downtown.

Update 9/18/2025: In total, 18 eligible proposals were received from the Village of Hempstead and private sponsors. Feedback will familiarize participants with the proposals, consider their impact and the degree to which they align with the goals, and raise any concerns or questions that we might want the proposer to address or the Local Planning Committee (LPC) to consider.

Update 7/24/2025: The period for submitting project proposals is now closed. Submitted projects will be announced at Local Planning Committee Meeting #3 on Wed. July 30, 2025 at Hempstead Public Library.

Proposed DRI Projects must ultimately be located within the DRI Area. The DRI Area may be amended by the Local Planning Committee before the completion of the DRI process. Below is a map of the DRI Area. Please check back to this website to see the most up-to-date version of the DRI boundary.
